- Security and Fraud Prevention. We use your personal information to authenticate your account, to provide a secure payment and shopping experience, detect, investigate or take action regarding possible fraudulent, illegal, unsafe, or malicious activity, protect public safety, and to secure our services. If you choose to use the Services and register an account, you are responsible for keeping your account credentials safe. We highly recommend that you do not share your username, password or other access details with anyone else.
- Communicating with You. We use your personal information to provide you with customer support, to be responsive to you, to provide effective services to you and to maintain our business relationship with you.
- Legal Reasons. We use your personal information to comply with applicable law or respond to valid legal process, including requests from law enforcement or government agencies, to investigate or participate in civil discovery, potential or actual litigation, or other adversarial legal proceedings, and to enforce or investigate potential violations of our terms or policies.
Legal bases for processing (EU/EEA/UK): If you are located in the EU/EEA/UK, our legal bases for processing personal data include:
· Performance of a contract: to process and fulfill your orders;
· Consent: where we or third-party tools (for example Meta Pixel) require consent for tracking or targeted advertising;
· Legitimate interests: for purposes such as fraud prevention, site security, analytics, and advertising optimization where our interests are not overridden by your rights; and
· Legal obligations: where we must process data to comply with law.
We will rely on the appropriate lawful basis for each processing activity and inform you where necessary.
Meta Pixel and Analytics (Facebook & Instagram)
We use Meta Pixel (formerly Facebook Pixel), a tracking technology provided by Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook & Instagram), to collect information about how visitors interact with our online store and to help measure and improve the effectiveness of our advertising. To enable Meta Pixel and server-side measurement, we use Shopify’s customer data-sharing settings; we currently use Shopify’s maximum data-sharing level which may transmit additional customer identifiers to Meta for improved matching and measurement.
Information Collected via Meta Pixel: The Meta Pixel can automatically collect data about your activities on our store, including:
- Pages you view
- Products you browse
- Search queries you make
- Items you add to your shopping cart
- Checkout initiation and payment information entry
- Completed purchases
Depending on our data-sharing settings, we may also share personal identifiers (for example name, email address, phone number, and location) with Meta to improve event matching and ad targeting; Shopify’s Enhanced/Maximum settings may cause these additional identifiers to be transmitted. Where possible and configured, identifiers may be hashed prior to transmission for matching purposes.
How We Use This Information:
- To analyze store traffic and customer behavior;
- To improve our website experience and product offerings;
- To create, optimize, and measure targeted advertising campaigns on Facebook and Instagram;
- To create Custom Audiences and Lookalike Audiences for advertising;
- To measure attribution and ad performance.
Data Sharing & Meta’s Use: Data collected through Meta Pixel is shared with Meta Platforms, Inc. and may be combined by Meta with information it has collected from other sources in accordance with Meta’s policies and terms; Meta’s developer and privacy guidance also states that businesses remain responsible for complying with applicable privacy laws when using Meta Pixel.
Meta as Separate Controller: When we share data with Meta (Facebook & Instagram), Meta may act as an independent controller for its own use of that data (for ad targeting, measurement, and other services). Meta’s processing is subject to its privacy policies and settings. For information about how Meta processes data and how to control ad settings and privacy on Meta platforms, please see Meta’s privacy resources and ad settings.
Consent & Regulatory Notes (EU/EEA/UK): Where EU/EEA/UK law requires consent for cookies and similar tracking technologies (for example under the ePrivacy rules/PECR), you must be offered a valid cookie/consent choice before non-essential tracking such as Meta Pixel is activated. Our site’s cookie banner and consent controls manage activation of advertising/tracking scripts for visitors in those jurisdictions. See the ICO guidance on cookies and tracking pixels for more information.
Your Choices for Pixel-based Tracking: You can control targeted advertising via your Facebook and Instagram ad preferences and browser/extension tools, and you can exercise sale/share opt-outs via our opt-out page and other mechanisms described below. Note: browser ad blockers can block browser-based pixel tracking but typically cannot block server-to-server events sent via Conversions API.
Facebook (Meta) Conversions API
In addition to the Meta Pixel, we use Meta’s Conversions API (server-to-server) to send event and customer data directly from our servers to Meta’s servers. The Conversions API complements the browser Pixel and helps improve event reliability and attribution. Because it sends data server-to-server, those events are not blocked by browser ad blockers.
Information Shared via Conversions API: Depending on configuration and our data-sharing level, the Conversions API can transmit:
- Purchase events and transaction details;
- Personal identifiers such as name, email address, phone number, and location (when configured to share at Enhanced/Maximum levels);
- Browsing behavior and customer events recorded on our store;
- Order values, product SKUs, and other order information.
Why we use the Conversions API: We use server-side events to: improve ad performance, increase attribution accuracy, and better measure which marketing efforts drive sales. Server-side sharing can improve match rates for advertising while complementing the browser Pixel.
Cookie Policy
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve your experience on our website, analyze site traffic, and support advertising efforts. Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit our site. They help us recognize your device, remember your preferences, and understand how you interact with our Services.
Types of Cookies We Use:
- Essential Cookies: Required for basic website functionality, such as logging in, shopping cart, and secure checkout.
- Performance and Analytics Cookies: Help us analyze site usage, measure performance, and improve our Services. These may include Shopify analytics and Meta Pixel data.
- Advertising and Targeting Cookies: Used to deliver relevant ads, including retargeting and tracking on third-party platforms (e.g., Meta/Facebook, Instagram).
Third-Party Cookies:
We may allow third-party services to set cookies, such as Meta Pixel or Shopify, for analytics, advertising, and personalization. These third parties have their own privacy policies and practices.
Your Choices:
- You can manage or disable cookies via your browser settings. Note that disabling certain cookies may affect website functionality.
- For EU/EEA/UK visitors, non-essential cookies are only activated after you provide consent via our cookie banner or consent management tools.
- To opt out of targeted advertising cookies used by Meta, you can adjust your Facebook and Instagram ad preferences.
Targeted Advertising
We use data collected through Meta Pixel and the Conversions API to create and deliver targeted advertising on Facebook and Instagram. This means you may see ads based on your activity on our site and we may use the data to:
- Show you ads for products you viewed or added to cart (retargeting);
- Build Custom Audiences of visitors who took specific actions;
- Build Lookalike Audiences to reach new customers similar to existing customers;
- Serve Dynamic Ads that automatically present products you viewed;
- Measure, attribute, and optimize our advertising campaigns.
When we share personal or behavioral data with Meta for advertising, Meta may use that data according to its policies and combine it with information from other sources. For more information, see Meta’s privacy resources and ad settings.
Automated profiling & advertising: The advertising activities described above involve automated processing and profiling (for example, building audiences, ad-delivery optimization, and dynamic ads). These processes may be used to make inferences about your preferences to deliver personalized ads. Under certain laws (including the GDPR/UK GDPR), you have rights relating to automated decision-making and profiling. If you have questions or wish to request human review or exercise related rights, contact us at info@ValhallaCrafts.com
How We Disclose Personal Information
In certain circumstances, we may disclose your personal information to third parties for legitimate purposes subject to this Privacy Policy. Such circumstances may include:
- With Shopify, vendors and other third parties who perform services on our behalf (e.g. IT management, payment processing, data analytics, customer support, cloud storage, fulfillment and shipping). In particular, we share data with Meta (Facebook & Instagram) via the Meta Pixel and Conversions API to enable advertising, measurement, and audience building as described above.
- With business and marketing partners to provide marketing services and advertise to you. For example, we use Shopify to support personalized advertising with third-party services and advertising platforms; our business and marketing partners will use your information in accordance with their own privacy notices.
- When you direct, request us or otherwise consent to our disclosure of certain information to third parties, such as to ship you products or through your use of social media widgets or login integrations.
- With our affiliates or otherwise within our corporate group.
- In connection with a business transaction such as a merger or bankruptcy, to comply with any applicable legal obligations (including to respond to subpoenas, search warrants and similar requests), to enforce any applicable terms of service or policies, and to protect or defend the Services, our rights, and the rights of our users or others.
Relationship with Shopify
The Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of the Services in order to provide and improve the Services for you. Information you submit to the Services will be transmitted to and shared with Shopify as well as third parties that may be located in countries other than where you reside, in order to provide and improve the Services for you.
We (Valhalla Crafts) are the data controller for the personal information we collect through our store; Shopify acts as a data processor for many technical and platform services. Shopify’s Data Processing Addendum (DPA) governs Shopify’s obligations and technical/security measures; merchants (like Valhalla Crafts) are responsible for selecting features and configuring integrations (for example Meta Pixel/Conversions API). For more information about Shopify’s data processing terms and the DPA, see Shopify’s Data Processing Addendum.
We use Shopify’s enhanced data sharing features (set to Maximum) for Meta integrations, which may transmit additional identifiers (such as name, email, and location) to Meta to improve ad matching and measurement. Shopify provides merchants the ability to publish a Data Sharing Opt-Out page and to respect industry opt-out signals like the Global Privacy Control.
To learn more about how Shopify uses your personal information and any rights you may have, you can visit the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and Shopify Privacy Portal.
Cross-Border Transfers: Personal information collected through our Services may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. By using the Services, you consent to such transfers, which may involve a different level of data protection than in your country. We take appropriate measures to ensure your data is protected in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
Third Party Websites and Links
The Services may provide links to websites or other online platforms operated by third parties. If you follow links to sites not affiliated or controlled by us, you should review their privacy and security policies and other terms and conditions. We do not guarantee and are not responsible for the privacy or security of such sites, including the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of information found on these sites. Information you provide on public or semi-public venues, including information you share on third-party social networking platforms may also be viewable by other users of the Services and/or users of those third-party platforms without limitation as to its use by us or by a third party. Our inclusion of such links does not, by itself, imply any endorsement of the content on such platforms or of their owners or operators, except as disclosed on the Services.
Children’s Data
The Services are not intended to be used by children, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information about children under the age of majority in your jurisdiction. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has provided us with their personal information, you may contact us using the contact details set out below to request that it be deleted. As of the Effective Date of this Privacy Policy, we do not have actual knowledge that we "share" or "sell" (as those terms are defined in applicable law) personal information of individuals under 16 years of age.
Security and Retention of Your Information
Please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee "perfect security." In addition, any information you send to us may not be secure while in transit. We recommend that you do not use unsecure channels to communicate sensitive or confidential information to us.
How long we retain your personal information depends on different factors, such as whether we need the information to maintain your account, to provide you with Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce other applicable contracts and policies.
Data retention: We retain personal information only as long as necessary to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Typical retention periods: transactional and order information — usually retained for at least 7 years for tax/recordkeeping purposes; customer account data — retained while the account is active and for a reasonable time after closure to satisfy legal and business needs; analytics and aggregated data — retained in anonymized or aggregated form indefinitely. If you want a specific retention period for a category of data, contact us at info@ValhallaCrafts.com
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the rights listed below in relation to your personal information. However, these rights are not absolute, may apply only in certain circumstances and, in certain cases, we may decline your request as permitted by law.
- Right to Access / Know. You may have a right to request access to personal information that we hold about you. You may have the right under certain laws to object to or request human review of decisions based solely on automated processing, including profiling, and to request information about the logic involved and the consequences of such processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at info@ValhallaCrafts.com
- Right to Delete. You may have a right to request that we delete personal information we maintain about you.
- Right to Correct. You may have a right to request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
- Right of Portability. You may have a right to receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to request that we transfer it to a third party, in certain circumstances and with certain exceptions.
Right to Opt out of Sale or Sharing for Targeted Advertising (CCPA / CPRA and similar laws)
Depending on where you reside, you may have a right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information or to opt out of the processing of your personal information for purposes considered to be "targeted advertising", as defined in applicable privacy laws (for example, the California CCPA/CPRA). You can exercise your opt-out rights as follows:
- Data Sharing Opt-Out Page: Visit our Data Sharing Opt-Out Page at https://valhallacrafts.com/pages/data-sharing-opt-out. Shopify merchants can publish a data sharing opt-out page and configure how opt-outs are handled; when a visitor uses that page, the opt-out is synced as described in Shopify’s privacy settings. We recommend using the opt-out page and testing it to ensure it functions correctly on your device/browser.
- Global Privacy Control (GPC): If you enable the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal and you are in a jurisdiction that requires honoring it (for example California), Shopify and we will treat a valid GPC signal as a request to opt out of sale/share for the device and browser that submitted the signal; if we can associate that device with your account, we will apply the opt-out to the account as well.
- Meta / Platform-level Opt-Outs: Use your Facebook Ad Preferences and Instagram ad settings to limit interest-based ads and personalize ad settings. Opting out on Meta platforms reduces personalization but does not remove ads entirely.
- Submitting California (CCPA/CPRA) requests: If you are a California resident, you may submit requests to know, delete, correct, or opt out using at least two methods we provide (for example, email and a web form). If you operate exclusively online, an email address may suffice, but we recommend providing both an email and a web form or toll-free phone number to simplify verification. We will verify requests as required and respond within the statutory timeframe (typically 45 days, subject to extension where permitted). For opt-out of sale/sharing requests, we will comply as soon as practicable and no later than the timeframe required by applicable law.
Other Rights & How to Exercise Them: You may exercise the other rights listed in this section (access, deletion, correction, portability) by contacting us at info@ValhallaCrafts.com. If you are a California resident and wish to submit a verified request under CCPA/CPRA, please use our web form at [insert URL] or call our toll-free number [insert number] (we recommend adding both). For identity verification we may require reasonable information (e.g., email, order number, or other details). We will respond within the statutory timeframe (for example, 45 days for CCPA/CPRA requests and one month for GDPR requests, subject to permitted extensions).
